When you start your wedding planning business, perhaps joining a local business networking groups in order to get referrals. Now might be spending a lot of time to participate formal group meetings and a meeting of members for coffee to learn more of what they do. However, you may be getting discouraged, because you have not gotten a lot of good suggestions or leads.
Business referral groups offer opportunities for you to meet other entrepreneurs, learn from them, and exchange referrals, but not all of them are right for a wedding and event planners. Many times business owners who are on the networking of these groups successfully are those that offer day-to-day business and consumer services and products.
Here are 4 tips that will help you get more referrals from the group:
1) Be prepared when the network
Always dress appropriately for the occasion, carry your business cards, and be willing to talk briefly about how you can help the bride to the question of what to do.
2) Do not commit to the group before you do this research
to attend a meeting or two before commitment to the group. You want to make sure that the networking with the experts that you like and trust and can do business with.
Make a group full of people who are constantly pushing their products and services to you or ask you to join them in their companies. You are networking to exchange referrals, do not feel obligated to buy from anyone or talked into joining something that will help you move forward with their goals.
3) Do not restrict the operations of the group
social, charitable and church organizations, hobby groups, fitness clubs and ballroom dancing are some of the places where you can find people with whom you could share some good recommendations, and even meet potential clients. Learn the organization in which the bride to belong to your niche and join them.
4) take the initiative, and still keep in touch with people
If you met someone at an event you want further contact, send a note by hand to tell them how much you enjoyed the encounter. Few people do so that will really stand out. Then continue to stay in touch occasionally suggesting meetings to share ideas and learn more about each other's company. People need to know and trust before they will give recommendations, so that their chance to do it.
